‘Twas Cephalopodmas Eve, and all though the dark hall,
No creature dared stir, or even move much at all.
The children were in their beds, sleeping all through the night,
While their much wiser parents could but shiver with fright.Only Cuddlefish and I were awake at that hour,
With no sanity left for the dark beast to devour.
We hung tori on the tree, having nothing to fear,
Just hoping that Cthulhu would come visit this year.Then we knew our unholiday cheer was not lacking,
When from up on the roof came a shrill muffled clacking!
We could sense his arrival then, quite unresisted;
Our minds filled with his scent, evil, bitter and twisted;Our first sight was a tentacle, dark, writhing and curled;
A terrifying tendril that could grasp all the world.
My gaze leapt from that limb to his visage, slick and foul,
When from his horrible mouth came a mind-piercing howl!I stood there quite resolutely and showed him no dread,
While his invisible mind-tendrils groped at my head;Of the things that came next, I have but little to speak;
I quite nearly burst open with an ecstatic shriek.
And just as I fainted with a soft whimper and sigh,
I heard him exclaim with a gurgled alien cry:Ia! Ia! Ia! Mlq’weh Cephalopodmas gwgr fa,

Ack! I’ve been tagged! *shakes her tiny fist*
Oh well. Let’s see… 8 random things about me…
- I like sailing. In SL, anyway. I haven’t had an opportunity to try in in RL. My new favorite SL sailboat right now is the Flying Fizz, although the Flying Tako has a dear spot in my heart. (Squidmobile isn’t a sailboat yet, so it doesn’t count.)
- I don’t smoke, drink alcohol, or use controlled substances. I don’t even drink caffeinated beverages anymore! My dark, twisted mind is 100% natural, baby.
- I run Gentoo Linux on my desktop box. I think there’s a Windows XP install buried on some partition somewhere, but I haven’t touched it in years. On a side note, ‘XP’ looks like an emoticon for blowing a raspberry with your face scrunched up in disgust, which is quite apropos.
- I’ve made (at least) 14 patches to the SL client since it became open-source. I haven’t been keeping track, but 14 is my guess based on scanning my svn logs. Not all of the patches have been applied by LL yet, though.
- I keep my fingernails trimmed extremely short. Toenails too, but I’m less obsessive about them as I don’t see them as often.
- I have a degree in 3D computer animation. But, my interests there more generally span the intersection of art, programming, and human interface. Also tentacles.
- A cat lives with me. She sticks around out of gratitude for rescuing her from the Humane Society. Also, in recognition of our humble offerings of kitty chow and warm blankets. (Really, though, she’s very sweet and attention-needy.)
- While travelling around the country, I once met a grizzly bear by the riverside. I wrestled him to the ground and bound his paws with my bootstraps. After he had calmed down, I untied him and taught him to read and write English (he already knew Canadian French, naturally, so it wasn’t too difficult). He then joined me in my travels for several years, and we had many adventures together.
Now then… victims. *giggles maniacally*

No, no. This isn’t about dressing my avatar in drag. It’s about moving my avatar around by clicking and dragging on it!
Today, I was messing around with the
llDetectedGrab()function, which returns a vector telling which way someone is pushing or pulling on an object. I’m planning on using it for controls in some upcoming projects, so I wanted to get a grip on it (pun intended).So, I put a script in a box, and tried using the vector in various different ways. The first, way was simply to move the box around; that was enough to confirm my suspicions about how the numbers worked. Then I went on to try changing the color of the object, based on the vector. When you drag it along the X axis, it turns red; along the Y axis, green; along the Z axis, blue. If you drag it along multiple axes, it turns some combination.
Then, I was showing it to Chrysocolla and hya. The land was no-rez, so I improvised by wearing the box on my head! Then I got the idea that I could allow other people to drag my avatar around, by pushing myself based on the vector. So, some scripting later, Chrysocolla was dragging my avatar and throwing her against walls and other hard things. Ouch!

Overall, it was very silly.
UPDATE: hya passed out poking sticks, so I got my revenge.
