I never knew you in SL, Jacek and only came to know of you by using Imprudence and the forums. I have read your bio above and I admire you for your creativity and learning. I am glad you are in Open Sim where I am sure you will make your mark and contribute hugely just as you did in SL over the years. I was in OS from very early on. I'm not a great contribute myself since I don't have the programming skills but I am an enthusiastic supporter and will argue it's case where ever I go.

Yes, Open Sim is definitely like the early days of Second Life but I would say it has one thing going for it that will stop it falling into the corporate mire. It's open source!

Keep up the good work and the creativity, Jacek. You are now one of my heroines *smiles*

While researching the trust value of the Imprudence viewer I find myself reading this article/post. I have no idea who you are, apart from your SL viewer, but I feel a sense of loss none-the-less. Your article reads as many think, myself included.. a sad state of affairs when the talent starts to leave.

I hope you continue doing what you think is right, which includes developing the Imprudence viewer ;)

@Breen
It seems to be the new "guidelines" for 3rd party viewers are just that guidelines, and it's voluntary.

Originally the hyperbole was about not being able to use 3rd party client, like Emerald, and believing that we were going to be forced to use Viewer 2, which most users can't stand (me included).

But the thing is, LL isn't double checking to see if any one client is complainant with their guidelines, also SL grid isn't stopping users from using client that don't comply with these new guidelines.

And you barely touched on what the "issue" is about these new guide lines. Something about liability on 3rd party viewer developers? So what? That won't stop people who create copybot viewers from using them. It's like gun control; making something that's already illegal, more "illegal" doesn't help things. Criminals will keep doing what they are already doing since they do not care about laws let alone "polices and guidelines."

As for LL being corporate driven, that's not surprising and any successful business usually leads into such a predicament. All that means the moment they start loosing profits (or not getting the profits they projected) the stockholders can use them into oblivion. While at the same time the corporation will do ANYTHING to avoid that, which is bad either way for employees and customers alike. That's the main thing I hate about corporations.

@HUGSaLOT . Originally the TOS(or TPV) put liability onto 3rd party developers. But this is but one part now,and despite being fixed by Linden Labs is really a tipping point for many that already have a list of peeves.

I will summerize it as follows(Jacek already mentions part of it): SL is now corporate driven, and there are now better,more open and alternative avenues for innovators in SecondLife. IE Opensim. Granted, Opensim is a wasteland as you mention. A social wasteland, so for those non innovators wanting the social side, SL is still the place to be.

But as it is now, Opensim is like an undiscovered vast continent - those that discover, create and shape things are now drawn to what they may help it to become. Opensim is what SL started off as, but the difference is that it can(and no doubt will) become the foundation of virtual worlds. Unknown by some, IBM, Intel and some other big names have paid employees contributing to Opensim. Personally, I am now along for the ride, and welcome anyone coming on board.

Happy rezday! Life's palette is filled with all kinds of emotions ... they are all gifts, even the bittersweet ones! Thanks so much for sharing. Your influence will be missed.

I am bookmarking all you've said about OpenSim for further study! Best of luck, and who knows? I may stick more than my toe in those waters!

So what is so wrong about the new TOS, and the guidelines for 3rd party viewers? I'm not gonna spend hours reading endless legal-jargon, but no one has yet explained what the issue is and why people seems to be bailing out of SL in droves.

Plus OpenSim seems like a wasteland, every time I login there's no one around.
