    That is awesometastic, Jacek!

The dialog reminds me of Final Fantasy, specifically ‘cuz of the white text on gradient blue background.

What’s your new rig gonna be composed of?

Excellent! I did that back in December. It made for, among other things, a much more pleasant SL experience. (Required a bit of updated education, too, since I hadn’t built a new machine in several years….) Hope the assembly goes well for you!

    Here’s what I’ve been running:
    - AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz
    - 768MB (512 + 256) DDR RAM
    - nVidia Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB (AGP)
    - Nasty old no-name beige case with bad/no air flow

If all goes as planned, here’s what I’ll be running after tonight:
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 2.4Ghz
    - 2GB (1 + 1) DDR2 RAM
    - nVidia Geforce 7600 GT 256MB (PCI-E)
    - Spiffy new brushed-aluminum Lian-Li case with wicked-cool air flow

All has gone well in the assembly so far: CPU, memory, graphics card in the mobo, power supply + mobo in the case (<3 slide-out mobo tray + thumb screws <3). Now comes the part where I cannibalize this old computer to provide more parts: CD/DVD drives, hard drives, sound card, and of course the peripheral devices.

Jacek Antonelli, signing off… INTO THE FUTURE!

Everything is working great — except for USB, which is not working at all. It’s a cruel, mouseless world, my friends. I can control the cursor with the keypad (yay accessibility) for now, but I’d sure like to get this fixed soon.

Also, I noticed something weird when I logged on to SL:

If I go and meditate where there are few prims and no other avatars, the frames are rendered so quickly that I see things before they occur. Indeed, alas! I saw the image of my own death woven into the grain of a magnificent and terrible glowing plywood torus, and I wept at the cold gracefulness of it.

I faced the torus, and asked it if what I saw would surely come to pass, or if it was but one of many possible ends of my days. By way of reply, it only spoke solemnly these cryptic and discomforting words before it vanished from my sight:

    Hello, Avatar.
