I had the same thing happen with my cable modem. I ended it taking it back to Bombcast, ooops I mean Comcast, twice to get new ones. I finally found one that worked. Also I had been using an extension from where the cable came into my house to where the cable modem was. I now have my modem hooked up directly to where it comes in the wall (i.e. 2 inches away from the wall) and it has been pretty stable. Good luck, there is nothing more frustrating than hardware that is flakey.
